[Unboxing] Birchbox – July 2016

Never-Ending Summer.

My Birchbox arrived super early this month, much to my delight. And having had the choice of one of the items I was excited to see what was inside. The box was designed in collaboration with Millie Mackintosh.

One of the additional things Birchbox offers is points for reviewing the samples you receive. You get 5-8 points per review, and each point is worth roughly 10p. Seeing as how you get at least 5 samples each month, in two month’s you’ll have about 50 points (£5) to spend in their store!

13833391_10208996225475582_81002825_oCost: £10 + £2.96 p+p, so approx. £13 a box
£5 worth of points if whole box is reviewed

John Frieda Luxious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment. RRP £9.99

This first item is the one that I chose! I had the choice between this or the Frizz Ease Forever Smooth Anti-Frizz Primer, but as I’m fortunate enough not to suffer from frizzy hair this was a no brainer. I love that you use this in the shower. No mess, no fuss. It’s full sized and seeing as how you’re meant to wait 2-3 washes between each use it’s definitely going to last me a while. Simple pump design and made of plastic, so won’t hurt as much if you drop it in the shower. Perfect for Summer.

LOC x Millie £9

This is the second full size item in the box, and is from a collaboration with Millie Mackintosh. Loc is a Birchbox brand, and I have a few items from them from before. They’re an okay brand. To be perfectly honest it’s not my favourite and I’m not likely to buy this in the shop out of my own pocket. But this is a nice light sheer pink, which I know I’ll get a lot of use out of. It’s not drying and glides on my lips. But it doesn’t have the staying power I look for in a lip product.

Nails Inc. Sample Size. Full Size RRP £15

I never need to buy nail polish, my beauty boxes always keep my supply topped up! I really like the colour that I got in my box, though shades were assorted. This had great staying power and only required two coats to fully cover my nails. What I really liked about this shade was that it’s suitable for work as well as a light summer colour.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum. Sample Size. Full Size £45

I’ve now got a healthy stash of Caudalie products, thanks to subscription boxes, and long may it continue. The picture in the booklet shows that the full size version of this comes as a dropper, which I’d have loved to receive instead of the tube. This has a pleasant floral fruity scent and the texture is thin and runny. It’s got decent hydration and promises to help even out skin tone. I think this is better suited to those with drier skin. A bonus is that it’s free from parabens and sulphates as well.

Elemis Hydra-Boost Day Cream. Sample Size. Full Size £39.

This is a day cream which contains hyaluronic acid, which is great for locking in moisture into the skin. It also contains samphire extract and starflower oil which are ingredients I’ve not used before so I’ll be interested to see what this does for me. It absorbs quickly into my skin, and is a great product for summer as it feels light and not oily.

13833385_10208996228355654_1547190661_oAltogether I’m a fan of this box. I wish that they re-used the drawer format of the previous month though, that was a great change in the design I’d love to see again. Was not a fan of the collaborative item, which is a shame as that’s the box exclusive. But I got the value of my box back with the John Frieda In-Shower Treatment so all is well! It’s a great way to try brands that I’d not consider due to their high price points though, like the Elemis and Caudalie. All in all a thumbs up from me.

Thanks for the review! Have you tried any other Caudalie products?

    • I’ve tried a few others from the other boxes that I’ve gotten in the past. I got the Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet in my May box which was in a pretty pink packaging.
That’s also been a great moisturiser and I’ve enjoyed using it.
