Natto is one of my all time favourite foods. An acquired taste, fermented soy beans are not everyone’s idea of deliciousness, they’re healthy and perfect for snacking or as part of a meal. So when I discovered that My Beauty Diary had a natto mask, I knew I had to add it to my collection.

My Beauty Diary is one of my favourite staple brands to use. I sheetmask almost daily, and that can be costly. But My Beauty Diary is readily available and affordable, which lessens the guilt I feel.
The Natto mask is best suited for those looking for an extra pump of hydration in their skin life. It also promises to firm, though as someone with chubby chipmunk cheeks I can’t in good conscience comment on the effectiveness of firming products.
Mask Fit and Feel:
The My Beauty Diary Masks are one of the thinner ones that I own, but they’re robust enough to be mishandled. I say that because I often find cheaper less durable masks rip when I attempt to unwrap them. Fortunately MBD isn’t in that category.
I like the fit of the MBD masks, and this natto mask is no different. See 180 pics below:
Essence and Duration:
Thankfully for those around me, the mask itself does not smell like the real life natto. Instead there’s a faint citrus scent, but this quickly fades into nothingness for me. There is plenty of essence in this mask. It doesn’t drip down my face, but there’s enough to spread down onto my décolletage and neck. I myself wear this mask for about 30 minutes and there’s still some life left in it for more. Once I’ve taken it off, I pat in the excess essence, which dries matte after about 5-10 minutes.
Key Ingredients and Effect:
Purified Water, Propylene Glycol, 1,3-Butylene Glycol, Water Cress Extract, Glycerine,Elder Extract, Algae Extract, Nanospheres, Aloe Extract, Natto Gum, Laminaria Digitata Extract, Bladder wrack, Grapefruit, Hyaluronic Acid , Arnica Extract, Bio-Active Silanols, Lemon Extract, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Butyl Paraben, Methyl Paraben, Ethyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben, Phenoxyethanol, Tween 20, Lactamide, Fragrance
Brightening – Grapefruit, Lemon Extract, Citric Acid
Hydrating – Hyaluronic Acid, Algae Extract, Natto Gum
This mask lives up to it’s hydrating claims, my skin drinks up this essence and still feels hydrated and happy the next day. I don’t think it had any longer lasting effects beyond the next day, unless you mask with it every day. I find this a soothing mask, with no irritation/redness even when I’m breaking out. But I also don’t really see any additional benefits to my skin, no calming down of spots or glowing visage to greet me in the mirror.
This is a good basic mask to fulfil your hydration needs, but if you’re looking for extra oomph you’ll have to look elsewhere. For theprice it does exactly what I want, and I don’t expect it to by a Holy Grail. My Beauty Diary is a staple in my sheetmask wardrobe and this natto mask has it’s place there for the hydrating effects I see. It’s one of the better MBD masks in terms of hydration lasting for the next day as well.
