It’s the return of Mask Mondays to MapleTreeBlog! In preparation for the September Mask Challenge on Instagram I’m Co-Hosting, more details here @MapleTreeBlog, I’m restarting the Mask Monday series for the next few weeks.
Starting off with a double post! Also hoping that makes up for all the Monday’s I’ve missed this year too….
Both were sent to me as Press Samples from B2link, a beauty start up focusing on incubating young Korean beauty brands. Which means a lot of their brands aren’t the usual suspect, so new discoveries abound! You can see more of the brands they’re incubating here at their Amazon Storefront.
As usual these are all my own thoughts and words.
Common Labs – Ggultamin C REAL JEL MASK Review
How to Use
This is a 2 step exfoliation and hydration mask pack.
Step 1) After cleansing use the finger pad to gently exfoliate the face. I did this by running over my face in small circles.
Step 2) Follow this up by wearing the sheetmask for 20-30 minutes. Lightly pat the Jel into your skin before continuing with the rest of your skincare routine.
Mask Fit and Feel
The cotton pad was a simple cotton pad size, with a slightly raised texture which two of my chubby fingers could fit into. The sheetmask itself was super light, I had a little difficulty unfolding as it was so thin and soaked in essence. I am finding I prefer thin sheetmasks, they’re easier to fit to my face and I don’t feel “suffocated” when I’m wearing them. This mask had a slightly big mouth area, so I ended up folding it a little so that my whole chin was covered.
Essence and Duration
The mask itself contains Centella Asiatica Extract, Honey, Propolis and Vitamin C as it’s Star Ingredients. Being acne prone the inclusion of Centella which helps with blemishes and Honey which is soothing are pluses for me. I’m also a big fan of Vitamin C’s brightening power. The mask had a light citrus scent to it, which quickly dissipated so wasn’t offensive.
Wore this mask for 25 minutes, and I probably could have worn it longer if I wished to. The next time I used it I wore it for 40 minutes, and it was still wet. There was a slight tacky feeling to my face, so I had to lightly massage the essence in and wait for 5 mins for it to sink in properly.
I mostly saw effects from the mask and not really the peeling pads. I’ve tried them together and separately, to see if they worked better together. The peeling pads are gentle, to the point I wasn’t sure if much exfoliation was happening. It also seemed to make no difference to the effects of the sheetmask. The sheetmask itself was very hydrating and I did see some evening of my skin tone. I wouldn’t say to the point of glow, but enough that I noticed in the mirror afterwards.
This mask works out at $2.80 a pop, which is in the “affordable” range as I judge it. What I liked about this mask was how much essence there was! There was enough that I could wear it for 40 minutes, and rub in the extra essence on my neck and décolletage. Though the negative side of this was that it was tacky on my skin and didn’t sink in very quickly.
My skin tone was more even after wearing and I liked that it was a visible immediate effect. It wasn’t to the same level as the Whamisa hydrogels, but given the price point I wouldn’t expect it to be.
These are decent masks if you’re looking for an instant boost. Wouldn’t advise wearing before applying make-up, as it leaves a tacky surface behind which needs time to sink in.
