First post of the year, and it’s fitting that it’s an unboxing, one of my favourite treats to myself. This is a rather belated review of the Althea Limited Edition Holiday Black Sparkling Box.
Back in December Althea got in contact with me and asked if I’d like to review one of their boxes. Of course being the mystery box lover that I am I had to say yes.
Althea is well known for their curated boxes, they’re great for people who are looking for gifts for others or themselves, and are on the whole well curated. This box was the 37th one that they’ve created in the last 2 years!
Each box is about £20, or $30 for my american readers, and they release new boxes every month. See what’s in the store here; Althea Boxes
Now onto the contents of the box!
Althea Korea Limited Edition Holiday Black Sparkling Box
I chose this box as it has the perfect mix of products for that smokey eye look. They’re also the perfect travel size for me to put in a clutch for top ups during the night.
Son and Park – All That Smoky Kit
This is a 6 shades mini palette from Son and Park with a 2 ended applicator included. It comes in a sturdy plastic case and the shades are a mix of matte and glitter. The six shades included are; Clear Stone, Toubu, Brass, Brownie, Iron Lilac and Charcoal.
I like to use Clear Stone in the inner corners of my eye and as an underliner to make my eyes appear bigger. Brass is more gold in my eyes, but is a great shimmery eyeshadow as well.
The colours aren’t highly pigmented, similar to a lot of Asian eyeshadows, but are buildable.
April Skin – Magic Snow Cushion #23
April Skin is a popular affordable cushion brand and I’ve ready great reviews of their magic snow cushion. It comes in a sturdy black case and with a cushion puff. Unfortunately I’m not the right shade for this cushion, and I dislike wearing foundations which are not my exact skin tone. So rather than waste it I’ll be regifting it, so no swatches of this one I’m afraid.
Rire – Rire Gel Eyeliner #01
I love a good black eyeliner, and my favourite brand is a Japanese one for it’s pigmentation. This is a pencil eyeliner with pretty good pigmentation and staying power. I like to use this in the outer corners of my eyes with a quick cat flick, nothing too overstated.
Missha – The Style 4d Mascara
This mascara is a decent one which adds length and volume to my lashes. It’s got a good pigmentation without clumping my lashes into a spider style. I find that two swipes is all that it needs to give my eyes the definition that I want.
I’m really pleased with the contents of this box. It’s a mix of brands, which is always a plus in my eyes as I can try new things out, and a good selection for a night out. It lives up to it’s promise for some edgy vibes during the holiday season. The only thing it was missing for me was a lip product. Though with a strong smokey eye an understated lip works well, so you don’t have that “overmade” look. It’s also more asian in style to be subtle compared to the stronger bold looks I see in the west. I would have also liked a different choice to the cushion, as it’s not my shade and I’m sure others will also not have matched. What I liked about the products is that it’s not just for going out, I can use them each on their own to good effect, and I really love the travel sized Son and Park Smoky Kit to the point it’s coming to Asia with me!
Thank you again Althea for sending me this box for review.
