Erborian is a brand which I’ve seen glimpses of, and discovered in Sephora when I went to Barcelona. My first Erborian product was actually a gift from a fellow instagrammer, BeautyandtheCat. Their products are more on the expensive side, so I was very happy to have won this ginseng mask in a blogger’s giveaway back in December.
Erborian Pate Au Ginseng Mask Review
From their website:
“Erborian, “Herbs of the Orient”, was born from the meeting of two women with a passion for beauty. Hojung Lee, a Korean scientist, dreams of sharing the world of Korean beauty and beauty products with women across the globe. Katalin Berenyi, a true beauty globetrotter, tirelessly travels the planet, seeking out the beauty secrets and rituals of the countries she visits.”
Formulated with Ginseng root, used for ages in Korea to help fight visible signs of aging, PÂTE AU GINSENG helps improve the appearance of skin’s firmness and elasticity through its tensor effect. With a concentrated dose of Ginseng, and its instant tensor effect, this mask helps your skin feel firmer and smooths out the appearance of the skin, providing immediate comfort and vitality for tired complexions. As if plumped from within, the skin looks visibly smoother, more luminous and younger.

Panax Ginseng Root Extract – This is the star ingredient of the mask, which is a 6 year old ginseng. This is the highest grade of ginseng available in Korea, and contains 32 different types of Saponins which are shown to have skin soothing effects as well as being high in anti-oxidants.
The following 4 extracts are in layman’s terms: Cocoa, Dragons Beard, Figwort and Polygotanum. The latter 3 are traditional ingredients in Eastern medicine and high in anti-oxidants.
I received the 50ml jar, which came in an attractive sturdy cardboard package. The jar itself is a twist top and made from plastic. No spatula was included.
Product & Scent
This does not smell strongly ginseng, which I love, but a softer sweeter scent. But for those with a sensitive nose it might not be for you. It’s a goopy dark brown, with highlights of red. It applies very easily and I have no difficulty smoothing it across my face.
You don’t need to apply much to create a thin layer, which is good as for the price I try to get as much use as I can from the jar.
Directions of Use
After cleansing apply a thin layer to a dry face. Leave for 10-15 minutes and then wash off.
Erborian suggest using this mask 1-2 times a week.
I really didn’t want to fall in love with this mask, due to the high price point, but I have. It’s ginseng goodness has cast a spell over me. I like the scent, I like the goopyness of it and how easy it is to apply and I love the results. When my skin is feeling dull or unloved I reach for this mask and it’s revitalised. I can’t speak to the claims of “firming”, as I’m fortunate to still have youth on my side/chubby cheeks. But it definitely brightens my skin and gives me that fabled glow. I like to use this before I shower/bathe and then follow up with a sheetmask. It’s super relaxing and just makes me happy to use.
My friends know my love for this mask, and not one but two friends bought me one as a gift! So I’m set for the rest of this year, but I am going to repurchase this. I’m also going to be buying one of these for my mum as she’s often asking me for skincare which brightens skintone. I rarely splurge with skincare, but I think this product is worth it.
